Top Gear, a popular car show by BBC television in Vietnam, attracts a diverse range of British newspapers.
What motorbikes they choose
James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear also recounted strong impressions of their trip to Vietnam to film.
Their idea was to follow in the footsteps of famous American directors like Francis Coppola, Oliver Stone and Stanley Kubrick to 'go all the way to Vietnam' in just eight days.
James May chose a Honda Cup, Richard Hammond drove a Minsk, and Jeremy Clarkson had an old Vespa. One notable detail is that Clarkson's motorbike was fitted with dozens of rearview mirrors because he saw the road was too crowded, afraid that only two mirrors would not be able to observe all the rear and the surrounding.
Where the Top Gear UK guys really went in Vietnam
All film crews are unaccustomed to rain, dust, and high humidity in Vietnam. The crew stopped at Lang Co, after departing from Ho Chi Minh City, through Da Lat, Nha Trang, Hue, and Hai Van Pass. Leaving Lang Co, the group boarded a train to Quang Tri then went to Ha Long Bay, turning 3 motorbikes into canoes for cruises.
“And we discovered that the country of Vietnam is longer and narrower than imagined. The truth is we are all tired of the trip ” May confessed. But he also said that he felt happy, a very sweet feeling even though he was wet and cold when walking in Saigon rain to buy cars but could not.
The impression of Top Gear's trip to Vietnam is probably deep enough for them to decide to extend the length of the program from 60 to 75 minutes. This is rated as one of the best motorbike show ever of Top Gear.
At the end of the program, Editor Jeremy Clarkson affirmed that Vietnam is a "very beautiful and wonderful" country.
